On the heels of our nations birthday, my mind has been turned to all the freedoms and liberties that we, as Americans, enjoy.

This time of year is a perfect recipe, stirring emotions of not only freedom, but of family and my faith. Things that are so strongly intertwined that they each affect the other. The breakdown of one surely has an impact on the other.
While we have so very many freedoms to be grateful for this time of year, and every day of the year, I am especially grateful to live in a time and place where religious freedom allow us to worship freely, and we have the freedom of agency to choose to do so.
Ezra Taft Benson, 13th President of the Church Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and known for his love of freedom, has been quoted as saying:
"..this is a choice land--choice above all others. Blessed by the Almighty, our forebears have made and kept it so. It will continue to be a land of freedom and liberty as long as we are able to advance in the light of sound and enduring principles of light"

I believe these words. I agree with these words. We truly do live in a choice land. A land that was created by the Founding Fathers, men who believed in God. Meaning the things they built have been brought forth through the inspiration of God.
Great sacrifices have been made to give us our freedoms. Sacrifices that have been made by those that have and continue to protect our freedoms, as well as the sacrifice of Christ, our Savior-- respectively. As we celebrate our freedoms may we remember that God is the author of these freedoms.
What freedoms are you grateful for?

I am grateful for our military personnel, past and present.
ReplyDeleteGoing back to Norman Rockwell, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear, very under-rated.
ReplyDeleteTo think of the crazy odds these men were up against in getting this new nation off the ground, it's hard not to attribute God's hand to the miracle that occurred. We take for granted so much of our economic, political, social, and religious freedom. Great reminder to be more prayerfully grateful, exercise our freedoms by voting and participating, being tolerant of other viewpoints that might not agree with our own, compromising where appropriate, volunteering, etc. Thanks for the post.
